The fall season is rapidly approaching in all areas off the country, and with those the various fall tours and horse shows come the all-important regional qualifiers for the ASPCA Maclay Horsemanship Championship, to be held this fall at the 2016 CP National Horse Show at the Kentucky Horse Park.

There are eight regional competitions, two of which have new location changes for 2016. The Northeast Regional, previously held in Fairfield, CT, will now be hosted at the facility at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, NY. For 2016, the Northeast Regional (Region 1 - CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, VT) and the East Regional (Region 2 - NJ, NY, PA) will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016. These changes come as a result of a suggestion from the National Horse Show Equitation Committee.

The classes will be held as two separate events and will feature a different course for each regional designed by the same, as yet to be announced, course designer. Also, the same two judges, Ralph Caristo and Robert Braswell will officiate at both regional competitions. Mason Phelps will be the CP National Horse Show on-site representative at both of these regionals.

The ASPCA Maclay Regional for Region 3 (Southeast - AL, DC, DE, FL, GA, MD, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA, WV) has been moved to the Southeast Fall Classic Horse Show in Tampa, Florida. Region 3’s qualifier takes place on Sunday, September 25, 2016. For contact information for Region 3, call Phillip DeVita at 407-619-0891or email devita124@aol.com. Matt Morrissey represents the CP National Horse Show at Region 3. Slated to judge Region 3 are veteran horsewomen Linda Hough and Susan Humes.

Region 4 (Midwest - IL, IN, KY, MI, OH) will qualify on Saturday, September 24 at the Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. For further information call 615-838-7560 or email wldwoo@aol.com. The CP National Horse Show will be representative is Robin Fairclough. Scoring the Region 4 qualifier are Scott Williamson and Chance Arakelian.

The St. Louis Charity Horse Show will host Region 5’s Maclay qualifier (Central – IA, KS, LA, MO, MN, ND, NE, OK, SD, TX, WI) on Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Lake St. Louis, Missouri. Marking the cards at Region 5 will be Geoff Teall and Susan Ashe.

For Region 6 (Mountain - AZ, CO, NM, UT), it’s the Colorado Horse Park that will play host on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Rob Gage and Julie Winkle are the judges for Region 6.

Region 7 (Northwest - AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY) will qualify this year at the NorthWest Autumn Classic in Monroe, Washington on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Region 7 judges are Danny Robertshaw and Scott Hoffstetter.

The final region, Region 8 (West - CA,HI,NV), will be contested at this year’s Blenheim Fall Tournament in San Juan Capistrano on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Details are available by calling the show office at 949-443-1841 or emailing showpark@aol.com. Janet Fall represents the CP National Horse Show at Region 8. Chance Arakelian will be joined by Brian Lenehan as the judges for Region 8.

With $810,000 in prize money offered, this year's 133rd CP National Horse Show has been designated a CSI-W 4* show by the FEI. The International Open Jumpers will compete for almost a half a million dollars in prize money, while the top rated hunter sections have a total purse of $195,000. Meanwhile, $130,000 in total is offered to the Amateur-Owner and U 25 Jumper sections.
