Ladies and Gentlemen Committees for 123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival Held Organizational Meeting

Wellington, FL – November 10, 2006 – The Ladies and Gentlemen Committees for the 123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival (NHS) held their organizational meeting and dinner on Thursday, November 9, 2006. The dinner was an intimate poolside affair hosted by Eugene R. Mische, President of the National Horse Show Association of America Ltd (NHSAA). The 123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival will be held on November 29-December 3, 2006, at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Center.

In addition to top equestrian competition and exhibitions, the horse show will host the “Jumping Under the Stars” black tie dinner and the “Five Faces of Madonna” after-party held at the Phelps Sports Club, on Friday, December 1.

The committees were there to greet new members, learn their duties for the horse show, and receive their NHS badges. The meeting addressed logistics pertaining to social functions and the responsibilities of committee members during the National Horse Show competition.

The food at the dinner was catered by La Peche Café and Catering and included Cornish game hen stuffed with duck paté, string beans, potatoes au gratin, and raspberry cobbler.

There are 31 total members in the Ladies and Gentlemen Committees, of which 22 were able to attend the dinner. Betty Jane Henry, Director of the NHSAA, Head of the Ladies’ Committee, and Honorary Chairwoman of “Jumping Under the Stars,” led the group. She was assisted by NHSAA Chairman of the Board Mason Phelps Jr., who is also Head of the Gentlemen’s Committee.

Committee members included: Jerry and Peggy Jacobs, Katherine Bellissimo (who attended with her husband Mark), Richard Schechter, Michael Whitlow, Vanessa Symmons, Arlene Tuny Page, Tim Boulton, Jim Corbin, Nappy Trantor, Ron Neal, Mary Lee Mele, Billie Burr, Kiki Umla, Kathy Moore, Jill Soderquist, Barbara Connors, Allyn Schiavone, and Joanne Feidler.

Also present were NHS Coordinator Elizabeth Hedley and NHS Sponsorship Director Caren Hunter.

THE FACILITY:

The Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club is also the home of the Winter Equestrian Festival and the site of the first outdoor Nations Cup held in the United States. The competition areas include the 400’ x 400’ grass Internationale Arena, which is surrounded by bermed seating, chalets, and VIP areas; plus the Bertalan DeNemethy Arena and Grand Hunter Field, both with all weather footing. Amenities include the Diamond Horseshoe Club VIP area.

DIRECTIONS:

Approaching the show grounds from the Florida Turnpike, take Exit #93, Lake Worth Blvd., and travel west, crossing over 441. Travel five miles to South Shore Blvd., turn right on South Shore and proceed one mile to Pierson Road, then turn left at the light. Spectator Entrance is first left, on Equestrian Road. Approaching the show grounds from Interstate I-95, take Exit 49. Travel west on Forest Hill Blvd. 11 miles to South Shore Blvd. Turn left on South Shore and follow to Pierson Road. Turn right at the light on Pierson. Spectator Entrance is first left – Equestrian Road.
