Established in 1978, the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation was formed in effort to reduce the cancer mortality rate in the state of Kentucky
which boasts the highest numbers in the country. Working alongside researchers across a variety of cancer fields, the foundation seeks to put their
resources toward funding the most promising research.
“We are honored to have the CP National Horse Show support such an outstanding organization,” said President of the National Horse Show Association,
Mason Phelps. “We hope to help the U.K. Markey Cancer Foundation raise funds to help support their venture to help Kentucky eradicate cancer.”
“Every hour of every day someone in Kentucky loses their battle with cancer. It's a sobering statistic, and one that can only be lessened through advancements
in research and treatment. The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation is the fundraising arm of Kentucky's only National Cancer Institute-designated
cancer center, a distinction that ranks it in the top 5-percent of all cancer centers in the country. We are humbled and honored to partner with
such a prestigious event, and we thank each person participating in the National Horse Show, whether it be on the backs of horses or as sponsors,
vendors or spectators for their support,” said University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation President and CEO Mike Delzotti.
With $810,000 in prize money offered, this year’s show has been designated a CSI-W 4* show by the FEI and the International Open Jumpers will compete
for almost a half a million dollars in prize money. For the sixth year in a row, The National Show Hunter Hall of Fame has named the CP National
Horse Show the ‘Horse Show of the Year’. In 2017, the top-rated hunter sections have a total purse of $195,000.
